초록

This study investigated the effects of a recovery cooling cream containing L-menthol (6%) and methyl salicylate (20%) on musculoskeletal pain, muscle fatigue, edema, joint range of motion, and functional performance in female Pilates participants. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 64 women experiencing exercise-related musculoskeletal pain were assigned to use either the active cream or a placebo, applied to the anterior thigh twice daily for three weeks. Assessments included pain intensity (VAS), knee joint range of motion, muscle fatigue, thigh and calf circumferences, and the Functional Movement Screen (FMS). Compared to placebo, the active cream group showed significant reductions in pain (49.8% decrease), muscle fatigue (49% decrease), thigh and calf circumferences (13.2% and 9.7% decrease, respectively), as well as improvements in knee flexion range (13.6% increase) and FMS score (18.4% increase), with effect sizes ranging from moderate to large (Cohen's d = 0.6–2.35). Topical recovery cooling cream containing L-menthol and methyl salicylate provides effective and safe adjunctive benefits for pain relief, reduction of fatigue and swelling, and functional improvement in female Pilates practitioners.
