동화와 단편소설 번역물의 오류 분석: 학부 과정의 지시어 오류를 중심으로

Abstract

The errors in literary translation of undergraduate students take place due to misunderstanding the source text or violating the norms of the target language. In the class, the items classified as a serious error mostly are caused by the former. The contents of the original are developed by the cohesive structure which the author has arranged. The designator takes a role to connect informations and keep coherence. When the translator cannot understand the directive target of the designator, the error takes place continuously and the contents might be seriously damaged. Therefore grasping the directive target of the designator is crucial in understanding the source text. In this study the researcher analyzes the errors in translating designators and examines the result and implication. The degree of the errors is categorized as ‘serious’ and ‘partial’ after data analysis. The former applies to the case, where the meaning of the text are damaged and represents the different message of the original while the latter is a micro one which does not affect understanding of the context. The errors are described and the quantitative analysis performs based on the result. According the result of the analysis, eighteen tokens in twenty two tokens from eleven items are classified as a serious error. The serious errors overwhelmingly outnumber the partial errors. The serious errors are caused by followings; the students cannot grasp the directive target of the designator in the sentence that has a complicated syntactic structure; the designator refers to the previous former sentence or extensive range of the text; there are several designators in a sentence. In practical translation class, the professor or lecturer should train how to catch the target of the designator and transfer it. The class must put focus on understanding thoroughly of the source text and transferring faithfully into the target text rather than on producing natural translation.
