Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore pre-service secondary music teachers’ perception levels of digital citizenship and AI literacy, as well as the relationship between the two domains. An online survey was conducted with 191 pre-service music teachers enrolled in colleges of education and graduate schools of education across Korea, and the reliability and validity of the instrument were verified to be satisfactory. The results showed that participants’ perception levels of digital citizenship was generally high, although the subdomain of ‘communication and participation’ appeared relatively low. Their perception level of AI literacy was also high, and among its subdomains, the perception of ‘competence’ demonstrated the strongest correlation with digital citizenship, suggesting a comple mentary relationship between technological proficiency and digital citizenship awareness. In addition, significant differences were found depending on teaching practicum experience and participation in AI-related music courses, indicating that practice-based experiences and relevant coursework con tribute to enhancing pre-service music teachers’ AI literacy perception levels and application skills. These findings emphasize, first, the need to integrate AI literacy education with digital citizenship in music education; second, the importance of practice-based experiences and related coursework for enhancing AI literacy; and third, the contribution of this study to curriculum design and pedagogical development that foster both technological understanding and ethical reflection.
