Abstract
Deleuze’s theory on Otherness shows that our true identity can only be established through reconciliation with them, allowing us to understand what we don't feel or the world. In the 20th century, some writers moved to reinterpret Spain's culture and history from a new perspective, breaking away from the rigidity of orthodox and heretical, mainstream and non-mainstream confrontation. Seeking the possibility of reconciling with their Others, they took the attitude of accepting the Other self as it was. Alarcón and Gutiérrez, as seen earlier, show their efforts to break away from the misogyny and phobia about the marginalized. The coexistence of Azucena, a gypsy woman, and Manrique, her adopted son of noble birth, is a reflection of medieval history that began at that time as a multicultural community with different cultures and religions, including Jews, Christians and Muslims. Despite the coldness based on purity of blood, its symbiotic relationship with Otherness that transcends the difference offers an dialectical view of looking for me in you. These ideas are fundamental to the position of criticizing crushed ideology, collective selfishness, reason-oriented rigid dichotomy that has instigated alienation and solitude, and a relativistic view that emphasizes the power of creating a dynamic history based on compromise and coexistence. From this point of view, the symbiosis/ cohabitation of Azucena and Manrique serves as a dynamic life force and an inflection point of reconciliation away from social prejudice and phobia.
