이 논문은 텔레비전의 지식 저널리즘이 가지는 의미들을 보다 적극적으로 생각해 보려는 목적에서 출발한다. 즉, 이 연구는 임시적인 용어이기는 하지만‘지식 저널리즘’의 정치적, 문화적 가능성을 생각해 보고자 한다. 이를 위해 이 연구는 EBS의 <지식채널e>를 연구대상으로 설정하였다. 제작진 스스로가 지식과 교육, 교양과 문화라는 화두를 전면에 내세웠기 때문이기도 하고, 텔레비전의 문화적이고 교육적인 실험의 가능성을 놓고 다양한 생각들을 펼쳐나갈 수 있는 경험적 분석과 사유대상이기 때문이다. 텔레비전은 상업주의 오락의 상징이기도 하지만 사람들과 각별히 친숙하게 밀착하고 소통하면서 사람들에게 어느 때는 급진적인, 어느 때는 사소하나마 감각과 감성, 생각과 태도 등의 다양한 측면에서 변화의 계기를 제공한다는 점에서 매우 정치적이며 교육적인 미디어이다. 또 텔레비전을 둘러싼 문화적, 미적 실험은 보다 대중적인 미디어 무대와 장소를 파고든다는 점에서 매우 중요하고 정치적이다. 이 논문은 라디오와 텔레비전, 신문과 잡지 등의 다양한 미디어에서 새로운 정치의 무대를 발생시키는 사회적 미디움(social medium)으로서의 지식 저널리즘에 대한 폭넓은 사유의 단초를 마련하고자 한다.
Abstract
This paper starts from a goal to think more actively of meanings and values which the knowledge journalism of television has. That is, this paper tries to give careful consideration on a political-cultural possibility of television’s knowledge journalism, despite of its tentative term. For this purpose, this paper sets <Knowledge Channel e or Jisik Channel e> of EBS as its study object. Why this paper deals with this program is that the production team proposes the theme such as ‘knowledge’, ‘education’ and ‘culture’ as main topic recently in the area of TV broadcasting. Another reason is that this program could be an object in thinking a new potentiality of TV’s cultural-educational role and analyzing empirically this issue. While television is a symbol of a commercial entertainment system, He/She is much more political in that TV can change, radically in some case or slightly in other case, people's sense, sensibility, thinking and attitudes, etc. This paper tries to provide a chance to think about a knowledge journalism as social medium and its political-cultural potentiality more broadly.
