현대 기독교 설교자의 정체성에 관한 존재론적 이해

현대 기독교 설교에 대한 위기의식은 이미 설교학자들 뿐만 아니라 현장의 많은 설교자들에게서도 팽배해지고 있다. 특별히 한국 교회는 지금 심각한 위기 현상들과 함께 미래를 예측하기 어려운 기로(岐路)에 서 있다. 현 한국 교회의 위기는 설교의 위기와 함께 하고 있으며, 설교의 위기 역시 교회 위기의 한 원인으로 작용하고 있다. 이와 같이 강단에서 선포되는 설교가 교회 위기의 한 원인이 되고 있다면, 설교의 위기를 극복하는 일이야말로 현 한국 교회가 직면한 위기를 극복하는데 있어서 필수적인 과업이 될 것이다. 오늘 한국 교회 설교 현장의 주된 위기 요인은 무엇인가? 물론 설교의 내용이나 방법, 사회적 환경이나 회중들의 문제가 한 요인이 되고 있음은 부인할 수 없다. 그러나 필자는 오늘 한국 교회 설교의 문제는 설교자의 문제요, 설교의 위기 역시 설교자의 위기에서 비롯된 것이라고 본다. 왜냐하면 아무리 설교에 관한 뛰어난 이론과 방법론들이 개발된다고 할지라도, 말씀을 강단에 서서 직접 전하고 설교학적 이론과 방법들을 실제 적용하는 사람은 바로 설교자이기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구는 오늘의 설교 현장에 대한 위기의식과 함께 이를 극복하기 위한 한 방편으로 현대 기독교 설교자가 추구해야 할 이상적 설교자상은 어떤 것인지를 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해서 먼저 성서와 역사를 통해 나타난 설교자상을 조명하고, 그것을 바탕으로 하여 오늘 설교자 자신의 존재론적 측면, 즉 ‘설교자는 누구인가’ 또는 ‘설교자는 누구여야 하는가’라는 관점에서 설교자를 이해하고, 나아가 21세기의 시대적 상황과 한국 교회의 현실에서 이상적 설교자는 어떤 사람인가를 말하고자 하였다. 특별히 오늘 한국 교회의 많은 설교자들이 ‘설교자 자신이 어떤 사람인가?’ 또는 ‘설교자는 어떤 사람이어야 하는가?’라는 존재론적인 측면보다는 ‘어떻게 하면 설교를 잘 할 것인가?“라는 기능론적 측면, 즉 설교의 방법과 기교에 지나치게 치중함으로써, 오히려 설교 현장을 왜곡 또는 타락시키는 현실을 목격하면서, 이 시대 설교자는 어떤 사람이어야 하는가를 진지하게 생각해보게 되었다. 그리고 거기에 대한 신학적 답변을 내놓아야 한다는 설교학자로서의 책무와 사명감을 느끼면서 이 글을 쓰게 되었다.
Abstract
The preachers ought to consider more what they are than how they preach. But today many preachers focus on how to preach well instead of considering who they are or should be. As a result, their homiletical abilities and technical skills in the pulpit have advanced surprisingly. But there is a serious problem in that the churches, even though ministers preach very well technically, are declining more and more. What is the problem? Is the problem with the content of the sermon? Is the problem that the method of the sermon is wrong? Or is it the problem of the congregation who listens to the preaching?Of course these things may be part of the problem. But I think that the present crisis in preaching is caused by the preachers themselves, and the core of the crisis is that the preacher is over trained in the aspect of functionalism. The preacher has to ask who he/she is first before he/she can ask how to preach well. That means the preacher must understand himself/herself in ontological perspective and prepare himself/herself as a preacher. Therefore, this article seeks to understand and establish the identity of the preacher in these times, emphasizing the role of the preacher in contemporary preaching. The Korean church has faced a very difficult situation since the latter half of the 1990's. To overcome this crisis, we have to recognize exactly the problem of the Korean church, analyze the reasons, and search for the answer to resolve it. As a homiletics scholar, in this article I try to find the way to overcome this situation in the Korean church in the area of preaching through a study of the identity of the preacher. To do this work I examine the portraits of the biblical preachers and study the distinctive features of the preachers in Christian history. Based on this study, I make suggestions regarding the identity of the contemporary Christian preacher in the Korean church.
