Abstract

Nodonghaebangmunhak was the ‘mediator’ that connected local-level labor movements and it was the journal that was published to become the ‘teacher’ who contributes to the development of the class consciousness of laborers. That is, it was the medium to resolve the organizational task and the literary task for the progress of class consciousness in terms of labor movement. The organizational task referred to the establishment of the guidance organization-vanguard party which comprehensively took control of the political strifes by laborers whereas the literary task meant establishing the Nodonghaebangmunhak theory based on the partisanship of the working class. It is obvious that the two tasks could not be easily combined. The discourse strategy of Nodonghaebangmunhak was generated from this point. In other words, Nodonghaebangmunhak aimed to secure a new example of laborer revolutionary vanguard at the symbolic level so as to accomplish the movement task of organizing the working class into one political power. This problem setting was possible only when the organizational alternative for the working class was shifted to the representation task of having to present the moral materialization which embodies the leadership of the working class. This meant that the literary representation issue of the leader symbolizing the leadership of the guidance organization was important. However, when Nodonghaebangmunhak was published, the expectation that laborers can progress to revolutionary vanguards was gradually being disappeared. The main agents of Nodonghaebangmunhak established the rules of labor representation in order to resolve the inevitable rifts which occurred while fixing the impossible tasks and difficulties. These rules resulted from the intention of distinguishing and putting together the intellectual and ideological heterogeneity either between intellectuals and laborers or inside the working class. Until its end, Nodonghaebangmunhak did experiments on the criticality of rebelliousness which can be implied by the literary representation strategy through the rules of labor representation.
