퍼스의 범주론과 결정이론(theory of determination)은 인식의 형성과정을 설명하는 데 유용한 이론적 단초를 제공한다. 본 연구에서는 퍼스의 범주론을 통해 의미작용 및 해석에 나타나는 결정의 요소들을 살펴보고 성공적인 습관으로 형성되는 과정을 설명하려 하였다. 성공적인 의미의 결정은 획일적인 의미의 고착화, 가치 중립화 현상과 같은 문제점에 직면하게 된다. 이를 해결하기 위해서는 다양한 해석의 가능성을 긍정하고 다른 사람의 관점에서 바라보는 소급의식(retroconsciousness)의 자세를 견지하고, 자기 통제의 사고를 통해 바람직한 방향으로 습관을 형성해야 할 것이다.
Abstract
C. S. Peirce’s theory of categories and theory of determination provide a useful theoretical basis for the justifiable foundation of cognition. The aim of this study is to examine the process of meaning and interpretation, and the successful fixation of habits. A successful determination of meaning raises issues involving uncritical decision making based on stereotypes and neutralization of individual values. To improve the situation, it is necessary to affirm the possibility of various interpretations, maintain a posture of retroconsciousness from the perspective of others, and form habits in a desirable direction through self-controlled deliberation.
