연구배경 빠르게 진화하는 인공지능은 패션 산업 전반의 패러다임을 변화시키고 있으며, 인공지능 패션 위크까지 전개되고 있다. 본 연구는 세계 최초로 시도된 뉴욕 AIFW 작품을 분석하여 표현 특성을 파악하고, 패션디자인 측면에서 인공지능의 창의적 가능성과 효율적인 활용 방안을 탐색하고자 하였다. 연구방법 첫째, 현대 패션에 나타난 인공지능 패션 위크 동향과 뉴욕 AIFW에 관해 문헌 고찰하였다. 둘째, 사례 연구는 뉴욕 AIFW 작품의 형식적 특징과 수상 작품의 디자인 특성을 고찰하였다. 셋째, 작품 분석 결과를 바탕으로 AIFW의 내적 가치와 효율적 활용 방안, 개선점 등을 논의하였다. 연구결과 AIFW는 전통적인 패션쇼와 달리, 인공지능이 디자인 프로세스의 핵심 역할을 하며, 패션 컬렉션을 창조했다는 점에서 혁신성을 갖는다. 디자이너별로 차별화된 주제와 콘셉트로 전개했으나, 실험적 형태와 미래지향적 패션 미학의 표현, 디지털 감성의 재질감 강조, 기술과 예술 융합에 의한 시각적 표현 효과의 강조라는 공통의 표현 특성을 나타냈다. 이러한 AIFW는 인공지능의 기술을 적용한 패션 위크라는 차원을 넘어 인공지능과 인간 창의성이 융합한 패션 플랫폼으로 기능하였고, 창의적 패션 표현의 확장과 민주화, 지속 가능한 패션 실현, 패션의 미래 실험실이라는 가치를 반영하였다. 결론 본 연구를 통해 패션 영역에서 인공지능의 영향과 AIFW의 확대가능성을 예측할 수 있었다. 앞으로 창의적 패션 이미지 생성을 넘어 실제 제작 가능성, 다양한 문화적 통찰이 심도 있게 고려되는 AIFW를 기대한다.
Abstract
Background Rapidly evolving artificial intelligence is changing the paradigm of the entire fashion industry, and even an artificial intelligence fashion week is taking place. This study aims to analyze the works presented at New York AIFW, the world’s first AI Fashion Week, to understand their overall characteristics and explore the creative potential and effective utilization of AI from a fashion design perspective. Methods First, a literature review was conducted on the trends of AI Fashion Week in contemporary fashion and the overall overview of New York AIFW. Second, the case study examined the formal characteristics of the New York AIFW works and the design characteristics of the award-winning works. Third, based on the analysis results, the study discussed the Internal value of AIFW, strategies for its efficient application, and areas for improvement. Result Unlike traditional fashion shows, AIFW is innovative in that AI plays a central role in the design process and the creation of fashion collections. Although each designer developed a collection based on a unique theme and concept, the works shared several expressive features, including experimental forms, futuristic aesthetics, an emphasis on digital textures, and visually striking expressions achieved through the fusion of technology and art. AIFW functioned not only as a fashion week that incorporated AI technologies, but also as a platform where AI and human creativity intersected. It reflected values such as the expansion and democratization of creative fashion expression, the realization of sustainable fashion, and the role of fashion as a laboratory for the future. Conclusion Based on the findings, the study anticipates an increasing impact of AI in fashion and the continued expansion of AIFW as a future-oriented platform. We look forward to future AIFWs that go beyond the creation of creative fashion imagery to embrace actual production possibilities and more profound engagement with diverse cultural insights.
