Abstract

In Japan, various fireworks competitions are held throughout the country, including the Sumidagawa River Ryogoku Kawabiraki event in the summer. When the fireworks competition is held, many people go out to the river to settle down and enjoy the fireworks that explode in the sky despite the heat. Or you can enjoy the burning fireworks with your hands in your hands or put them on the floor and shoot them. These fireworks are one of Japan’s representative summer night scenery. After the fireworks were introduced to Japan, fireworks were initially held to console the souls of those who died of famine, suffering accidents, or plague and to pray for the same event and accident not to recur. Meanwhile, private professionals such as Kagiya and Tamaya appeared, and this was accepted as one of the common people’s cultures. People who go to enjoy Ryogoku Kawabiraki event can enjoy themselves with toy fireworks. In this paper, fireworks articles were found in encyclopedias books published in the Edo period, and it was confirmed that the popularity was very high at that time through the fact that fireworks specialized books and Ukiyoe works appeared. This can be attributed to the fact that Japanese people’s wishes for a peaceful world different from before were expressed through fireworks during the Edo period.
