Abstract

This paper examines Galatians 4:1–7 with a focus on debated verses and provides the author's perspective. By comparing Paul's references to inheritance law with those of Judaism, Rome, and Hellenism, the study concludes that Hellenistic context best explains the passage. The term “we” is interpreted as inclusive of Gentile Christians in Galatia. The “elemental principles of the world” encompasses both Mosaic Law and Gentile religion, reflecting Paul's intent to address a diverse audience. The confession in verses 4–5 is rooted in early church tradition, but “born of a woman” is regarded as Paul's adaptation for Gentile readers. The “Spirit of the Son” refers to the Holy Spirit's indwelling, which affirms believers as God's heirs and enables them to call God “Father.” Through this analysis, the paper clarifies Paul's explanation of the believer's transformation of status by the Spirit and its theological significance.
