서울특별시 자치구의 구체적 범죄 두려움에 대한 다수준 분석

초록

이 연구는 전국범죄피해조사 2014 자료를 통해 개인적 특성과 지역적 특성이 구체적 범죄 두려움에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 구체적으로 취약성이론, 기회이론, 무질서모델, 범죄억제 감시수단의 주요 변수가 범죄 두려움에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해 위계적 선형모형을 사용하였다. 분석결과 개인수준에서는 여성, 낮은 연령, 사치품착용이 범죄 두려움을 증가시켰고, 늦은 귀가는 오히려 범죄 두려움을 낮추는 것으로 나타났다. 지역수준에서는 무질서가 범죄 두려움을 증가시켰지만, 가로등‧보안등의 설치비율은 한계적 수준에서 범죄 두려움을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 성별과 지역수준의 변수들 간 상호작용효과에 있어서는 가로등‧보안등, CCTV의 영향이 성별에 따라 조건화되는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 가로등‧보안등이 많이 설치된 지역일수록 구체적 범죄 두려움에 대한 여성의 감소폭이 남성 보다 크게 나타났고, CCTV 설치비율이 높은 지역일수록 여성들이 더 많은 범죄 두려움을 느끼는 것으로 확인되었다. 늦은 귀가와 CCTV 요인의 영향이 예상과 다르게 나타났는데, 이는 횡단분석에서 흔히 나타나는 원인과 결과의 선후관계 문제로 추정된다. 범죄 두려움은 개인의 고유한 특성에 따라 다르게 나타날 뿐만 아니라 지역적 특징에 큰 영향을 받는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 이 연구는 분석결과에 기초하여 서울특별시가 거시적 측면에서 주민들의 범죄 두려움을 감소시킬 수 있는 정책에 대한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.

Abstract

This study analyzed the effects of personal and regional factors on specific crime fear through the National Crime Victimization Survey 2014. For this purpose, we examined how the main variables of vulnerability theory, opportunity theory, disorder model, and surveillance for crime prevention account for the fear of crime through the hierarchical linear modeling. The results showed that at the individual level, females, young age, and wearing luxury goods increased fear of crime, and returning home late rather reduced fear of crime. At the local level, the disorder has increased the fear of crime, but the street light has been shown to reduce the fear of crime at a marginal level. On the other hand, in the interaction effects between gender and social factors, the effects of street light and CCTV were conditioned by gender. In other words, the more street lights are installed, the greater the decrease in women's fear of crimes than men's, while the higher the CCTV installation rate, the more women feel higher crime fears than men's. The impact of returning home late and CCTV's factors on crime fears is different than expected, which problem is assumed to have been caused by the relationship between causes and consequences that are common in cross-sectional analysis. Fear of crime has been identified not only to vary depending on the individual's factors, but also to be greatly influenced by regional factors. Therefore, based on the results of the analysis, this study aims to suggest the Seoul metropolitan government's policy to reduce residents' fear of crime in a macro perspective.
