초록
Intimate partner homicide (IPH) is a serious crime with broad implications for public safety. This study presents a descriptive analysis of IPH cases adjudicated in China, focusing on the perpetrators’ psychological characteristics. The data, sourced from the Peking University Law Database between April 2013 and December 2023, comprise 156 cases of domestic homicide. Perpetrators are categorized based on their relationship dynamics with victims, considering factors including domestic violence, estrangement, divorce disputes, and mental health issues. The findings reveal that IPH often results from a complex interplay of negative emotional experiences and relationship tensions. Perpetrators frequently exhibit cognitive distortions, emotional volatility, weak willpower, and personality traits that predispose them to violence. Additionally, dynamic psychological processes are identified, including the germination and formation of criminal intent, prompting violent acts. Notably, the research highlights the importance of temporal factors in IPH, with a significant positive correlation observed between night-time and the occurrence of crimes. This study contributes to the literature by comprehensively analyzing the psychological profiles of IPH perpetrators in China. It suggests that preventive strategies should aim for early identification of at-risk relationships and involve multi-agency interventions. The research underscores the need for a nuanced understanding of IPH to inform evidence-based policies and practices aimed at reducing such crimes.
