본 연구의 목적은 경계선 지적 기능(borderline intellectual functioning: BIF) 청소년의 어휘 능력과 추상적 언어이해 능력을 중심으로 언어 수행 특성을 살펴봄으로써 사회성 개입의 방향성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 BIF 중학생 22명과 일반 중학생(adolescents with typical development) 20명이 각각 표적군과 대조군으로 연구에 참여하였다. 한국판 웩슬러 아동지능검사 제5판(K-WISC-V)을 실시하였고, 언어이해 지표 영역의 집단 간 수행 차이와 하위 소검사인 ‘공통성(similarities)’과 ‘어휘(vocabulary)’의 수행 특성을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 표적군은 대조군에 비해 언어이해 지표와 두 소검사 모두에서 유의하게 낮은 수행을 보였다. 또한, 두 소검사 모두에서 집단 간 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 특히 대조군이 2점 반응(정확한 개념적·추론적 반응)에서 현저히 높은 반응 비율을 보인 반면, 0점 반응(비논리적·감각적·부적절한 반응)에서는 표적군이 압도적으로 높은 반응 비율을 보였다. 본 연구의 분석 결과는 BIF 청소년을 대상으로 한 사회성 개입의 구체적 방향을 마련하기 위한 기초자료로 활용될 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the direction for social skills intervention by examining the linguistic performance characteristics of adolescents with Borderline Intellectual Function (BIF), focusing on vocabulary and abstract verbal comprehension. Twenty-two middle school students with BIF and twenty students with typical development participated as the target and control groups, respectively. All participants completed the Korean version of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (K-WISC-V), and group differences were analyzed for the Verbal Comprehensive Index (VCI) and its sub-tests, Similarities and Vocabulary. The results indicated that adolescents with BIF scored significantly lower than the control group on the VCI and both sub-tests. Significant between-group differences were also observed for both sub-tests. The control group showed a markedly higher proportion of 2-point responses (accurate conceptual and inferential responses), whereas the target group exhibited an overwhelmingly higher proportion of 0-point responses (illogical, sensory-based, or inappropriate responses). These findings highlight distinct qualitative differences in verbal reasoning and conceptualization among adolescents with BIF and provide foundational evidence for developing more targeted and effective social skills interventions for this population.
