Abstract

Recently, increasing pattern is observed that there are many sports star with credibility and attractiveness. A lot of companies have made the good use of virtue of these stars. Most of all sports stars, however, show themselves not being considered of important variables -image congruence and product type(e.g., utilitarian vs. hedonic). This research would focus on qualitative difference of star's image or product type. This study predict that mere popularity of stars do not guarantee consumers' positive response. As a results, image-congruent model are preferred to not case, but there are no difference between utilitarian and hedonic product. This is, only one main effect about image congruence is supported -no main effect about product type. More importantly, two-way interaction effect is observed. Specifically, utilitarian(vs. hedonic) product got more positive consumer' evaluation only under image congruent condition. Under incongruent, this effect disappears. This study dilates extremely low advertising effect under image incongruent condition.
