Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of song-based therapeutic music activities on the teamwork, job stress, and mood state of firefighters in the field. The subjects of the study were 40 field firefighters working at the P Fire Station located in Gyeonggi-do, who were randomly assigned to 20 experimental and 20 control groups. The experimental group participated in a total of 8 song-based therapeutic music activity sessions, conducted at three 119 safety centers where the subjects were employed, while the control group received no intervention. For data collection, a revised and supplemented teamwork scale, the Korean-style job stress evaluation scale(KOSSⓇ19), and the mood state test scale (K-POMS-B) were utilized to assess the firefighters’ teamwork. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 28, and the research results are as follows. First, a statistically significant difference in teamwork scores was observed between the experimental and control groups, with a significant improvement in the experimental group’s pre-post teamwork scores. Second, there was a statistically significant difference in job stress scores between the two groups, and the pre-post job stress scores of the experimental group were also significant. Third, the experimental group showed a statistically significant change in mood state scores before and after the song-based therapeutic music activities. These findings suggest that song-based therapeutic music activities positively impact improving teamwork, reducing job stress, and enhancing the mood conditions of firefighters in the field. This study is significant as it provides foundational data to support the safe and healthy work life of firefighters.
