월암 이광려는 18세기 소론계 학문과 시단에서 중요한 인물로 평가된다. 그의 시명은 소론계 내에서뿐만 아니라 정치적 진영을 넘어서 있었으며, 이는 이덕무, 홍석주 등 동시대 문사들의 언급에서도 확인된다. 이광려는 특히 과체시 작성에 있어서도 높은 명성을 얻었는데, 평생 포의로서 살아갔음에도 불구하고 현전하는 여러 과체시선집을 통해 확인되듯 이광려가 상당한 양의 과체시를 남긴 사실은 주목을 요한다. 과체시는 본래 엄격한 형식성으로 인해 문학성을 발휘하는 데 제한적인 양식이라 여겨졌으나, 본고에서는 오히려 이러한 양식적 특수성을 이용해 이광려 시작이 내포하는 특질을 다른 방식으로 조명해보고자 한다. 이에 기존 과체시선집들을 바탕으로 이광려의 과체시 작품을 개괄하고, 그중 두 편을 16세기 중반 이후 정식화 양상을 보이는 과체시 규식에 의거하여 분석해보았다. 그 결과, 이광려의 시작이 과체시의 형식적 규범을 준수하면서도, 원전의 재현과 변용 과정에서 문학적 상상력을 발휘하여 미적 특질을 창출하는 지점을 확인할 수 있었다. 이광려의 과체시 창작은 18세기 과체시 창작의 한 국면을 조명한다는 점에서 의미를 지니며, 동시에 기존의 단형 작품 중심으로 이루어진 이광려의 시문학 연구에 있어서도 유의미한 참조점을 제공해줄 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
Wolam Lee Kwang-ryeo is regarded as an important figure in the 18th-century scholarly and poetic circles of the Soron faction. His poetic reputation extended beyond the Soron faction, transcending political divisions, as evidenced by mentions from his contemporaries, such as Lee Deok-mu and Hong Seok-ju. Notably, Lee Kwang-ryeo achieved significant renown for his creation of civil examination poems(official poetry). Despite living his entire life as a secluded scholar, the substantial body of civil examination poems he left behind, as confirmed through various surviving anthologies, warrants close attention. Although civil examination poems have traditionally been viewed as a restrictive form that limits literary expression due to its rigid formal structure, this study aims to shed light on the unique characteristics of Lee Kwang-ryeo's poetry by leveraging this formal specificity. Based on existing anthologies of civil examination poems, this paper provides an overview of Lee Kwang-ryeo's works and analyzes two of his poems in relation to the formalized conventions of civil examination poems established since the mid-16th century. The findings reveal that Lee Kwang-ryeo adhered to the formal rules of gwachesi while demonstrating literary imagination during the processes of recreating and transforming original texts, thereby achieving aesthetic qualities. Lee Kwang-ryeo's contributions to the creation of civil examination poems offer valuable insights into one aspect of 18th-century civil examination poem production. Furthermore, they provide a meaningful reference point for existing research on Lee Kwang-ryeo's literary works, which has primarily focused on his shorter poetic forms.
