코로나 팬데믹(Corona pandemic)으로 인해 뮤지엄은 전례 없는 운영상의 위기를 맞고 있다. 현재 국내외 다수의 뮤지엄들은 관람객의 방문을 무기한 통제하는 중이지만, 기관의 내외부적 환경을 고려한 정책적 대응을 통해 운영상의 손실을 최소화하고자 한다. 본 연구는 코로나 시대를 마주하고 있는 뮤지엄 운영환경의 위기 상황을 진단하기 위한 방법으로서 시설 폐쇄로 인한 경제적 여파를 단기적, 중장기적 영향이라는 범주로 나누어 분석한다. 나아가 이에 대처하는 뮤지엄들의 대응 방식을 조명하고 향후 전망에 대해 논의해본다. 연구 결과, 뮤지엄의 폐쇄는 수익구조의 불안정성을 초래하여 기관의 생존을 즉각적으로 위협하고, 이 과정에서 직원들과의 계약해지 및 임금삭감을 감행할 가능성이 높다. 이에 뮤지엄은 지속가능한 운영 모델을 유지하고자 수익원의 다각화는 물론 정부 및 관련기관으로부터 정책적 지원을 요청하고 있다. 또한 뮤지엄은 오프라인 방문 통제로 인해 제한된 관람객과의 소통을 온라인 콘텐츠를 통해 회복하고자 한다. 이는 온라인 교류 행위 자체를 ‘참여’의 맥락에서 수용하면서 동시에 신규 관람객을 유인하는 운영상의 새로운 패러다임을 구축할 수 있다는 점에서 주목해야 한다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes the short-term and long-term economic impact of closing museum facilities as a method for diagnosing the crisis in museum operations in the era of Coronavirus. Future prospects will be discussed by highlighting practical countermeasures. The closure of museums causes instability in revenue structure, which immediately threatens the institution’s survival, and is likely to lead to the termination of contracts with employees and a reduction in payroll. Accordingly, museums are seeking diversification of revenue sources and policy support from the government, including related organizations to maintain a sustainable operation model. In addition, due to a lack of offline visits, museums seek to restore communication channels targeting visitors through online content. It should be noted that this is about establishing a new operational paradigm that accepts the interactive online activity itself as a mode of participation and simultaneously attracts potential visitors.
