Abstract
This study investigated the effects of a brain-based basic arithmetic program on the mathematics achievement, brain function quotient, and mathematics emotion of elementary school students at risk of learning disabilities. Sixteen elementary school students with borderline or average intelligence who were at risk of learning disabilities and lived in J City were selected and given a brain-based basic arithmetic program for a total of 16 sessions, 50 minutes each, twice a week for eight weeks. Using the SPSS program, the changes in students' mathematics achievement, brain function quotient, and mathematics emotion scores before and after the program were analyzed using parametric and non-parametric statistical processing methods. The study findings were as follows: First, the brain-based arithmetic program was effective in improving the mathematics achievement of students with borderline or average intelligence in mathematics, and the difference in effectiveness between the two groups was not statistically significant. Second, the brain-based basic arithmetic program was effective in activating the brain activity Quotient and anti-stress Quotient of students with borderline intelligence or average intelligence, and the difference in effect between the two groups was not statistically significant. Third, the brain-based basic arithmetic program was found to be effective in improving the mathematical emotion of students with borderline or average intelligence, with a greater effect on students with average intelligence. Based on these results, the brain-based basic arithmetic program appears to be effective in activating the mathematics achievement, brain function quotient, and mathematics emotion of both borderline and average intelligence students at risk of learning disabilities, and is more effective in improving the mathematics emotion of students with average intelligence than those with borderline intelligence. The limitations of this study and future research directions for brain-based basic arithmetic programs for students at risk of learning disabilities were discussed.
