Abstract
This study introduces a data‑driven model that complements the traditional four‑step framework to improve urban rail demand forecasts. Using 2023 smart‑card big data, we combined station‑level ridership with spatial variables (land‑use mix, land value) and transport factors (headway, transfer ease). Random‑forest importance analysis and expert surveys highlighted 11 key predictors—e.g., residential/office/commercial floor area, official land value, inter‑station distance, headway, and access time to Gangnam Station. Regression models were developed for all‑day, peak/off‑peak, and AM/PM periods. Land‑use density, headway, and number of transfer lines strongly affected demand, while the influence of land‑use types varied by direction and time. Applying the model to the 2034 Myeonmok Line showed that transfer‑station classification and future development plans need refinement and that some stations may warrant more conservative forecasts. By integrating multi‑layer spatial and transport data at the station scale, the model reduces early‑stage demand uncertainty and supports decisions on investment feasibility, station‑area development, and urban regeneration.
