페미니즘 작가의 바느질 작업에 내재된 자아치유적 요소 연구- 루이즈 부르주아(Louise Bourgeois)작품을 중심으로 -

천에 수를 놓거나 옷감을 이어붙이는 바느질은 이제 일반적인 범위에서 벗어나 종이, 캔버스, 천, 비닐 위에 수없이 반복되는 수작업으로 현대미술의 다양한 표현범위를 확장시키고 있다. 본 연구는 페미니즘 작가인 김수자, 아네트 메사제의 작품을 통하여 미술로서의 바느질 표현방법을 살펴보고, 루이즈 부르주아의 바느질 작업이 미술표현의 수단뿐 아니라 자아 치유의 매개체였음을 연구의 목적으로 삼는다. 부르주아의 바느질 작업은 그녀의 말처럼 ‘치유’의 상징이고, 바늘은 단순한 ‘복원’의 차원만이 아니라 어린 시절의 기억과 현재를 연결하는 매개체이며, 희망의 상징적 도구이기도 하다. ‘나의 심리적 치유활동’으로서의 예술을 택했다는 페미니즘의 거장 루이즈 부르주아는 미술이 가진 카타르시스와 자기통찰이 뒷받침 된 자아치유적 힘이 곧 예술이라 하였고, 이러한 예술이 자신의 삶을 반영해 준다고 하였다. 미술의 창작과정을 통한 미술치료가 근래 각광받고 있는 반면, 화가들의 작업과정에서 오는 자아치유적인 연구는 미비한 실정이라 앞으로 많은 연구가 필요하다고 사료된다.
Abstract
There are many patterns of needleworks, for instance, embroidery and patching designs, that are used in common practice such on clothes. Today, innumerable needlework has been expanded its definition by applying on a piece of paper, canvas, fabric, and vinyl that allows modern artists' extend their innovative creations. This paper analyzes on how to express one's feelings through needleworks by reflecting on art works by two feminist artists Kim Soo-Ja and Annette Messager. This paper is concentrated on observing needlework being not only as a piece of art work but also being used as self-healing factors in Louise Bourgeois's art works. As she mentioned, needlework is a symbol of "healing", the needle is not just a matter of "restoration". But also it is used as a messenger that links the past and the presence, thus, needle is a symbolic tool to convey hope. One of the greatest artists today, Louise Bourgeois,definesartas'Mypsychologicalhealing process'. In another words, art is the power of self-healing with support of catharsis and self awareness that reflects on one's life. In sum, people start to recognize the importance of creative art programs in art therapy. However, due to lack of researches on self-healing factors in artists' art work process, the further studies are ultimately necessary.
