미술치료 관점에서 본 자기고백미술의 치유성: 루이즈 부르주아와 트레이시 에민의 작품을 중심으로
Healing Properties of Self Confession Art from the Perspective of Art Therapy: Focusing on the Works of Louise Bourgeois and Tracey Emin

본 연구는 작가의 자전적인 이야기를 고백적으로 표현하는 ‘자기고백미술 self-confession art’이라는 새로운미술 흐름이 미술치료의 개념과 흡사하다는 인식에서 출발하였다. 자기고백미술은 작가의 정신적 외상을 담고있기에 트라우마의 재현을 통한 자아의 성찰은 미술치료 관점에서 논의될 수 있다. 이를 근거로 본 연구는 자기고백미술가 ‘루이즈 부르주아 Louise Bourgeois’와 ‘트레이시 에민 Tracey Emin’의 작품에 내재한 치유적인요인을 미술치료 관점에서 분석하고자 하였다. 부르주아와 에민의 자기고백미술에 내재한 치유적 요인은 다음과 같다. 첫 번째, ‘정체성의 회복’이다. 이는 미술치료의 핵심으로, 이들은 작품을 통하여 자아를 올바로 인식하고 자신의 문제를 객관화하였다. 두 번째, ‘고백적인 자기 노출 표현’이다. 이들은 자신의 정신적 외상을 대중에게 여과 없이 고백함으로써 카타르시스를 느끼고, 부정적인 감정을 배출, 긍정적인 정서를 형성할 수 있었다. 세 번째는 ‘반복적인 표현’이다. 이들은 자신의 상처를 반복적으로 재현하면서 무의식에 억압되어있는 트라우마를 의식 밖으로 끌어올려 과거의 상처를 재구성하여 치유될 수 있었다. 따라서 미술치료 관점에서 본 자기고백미술의 치유적인 요인은 정체성 회복, 고백적인 자기노출 표현, 반복적인 표현이라는 것을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
which expresses the artist’s autobiographical story in a confessional way, is similar to the concept of arttherapy. Self-confession art reflects the psychological trauma of artists, and analyzing self-examinationthrough reemergence of the trauma can be a psychotherapeutic approach. The purpose of this research is toanalyze the healing properties from the perspective of art therapy by studying self-confessional artistsLouise Bourgeois and Tracey Emin. The indwelling healing factors in Bourgeois’ and Emin’s self-confessionworks are as follows. First of all is the ‘recovery of identity.’ It is the core factor of art therapy, in whichthey acknowledged themselves and objectified their issues through their works of art. The second factor isthe ‘confessional self-disclosure.’ They felt catharsis through the expression of their psychological trauma tothe public, and it eventually helped them emit negative emotions, converting them into positive emotions. Thirdly, it is a ‘repetitive expression.’ They repetitively expressed the pain trapped inside, which graduallybrought the unconscious trauma out, curing the past wound consciously and enabling it to be restructured. Hence, the underlying healing properties of self-confession artworks from the perspective of art therapy arethe recovery of identity, confessional self-disclosure, and repetitive expression.
