초록
The paper attempts to reevaluate the relationship between Russia and Eurasia, examining the particularity of the historical development of Russia. This particularity consists in the fact that the expansion and development of the state from Muscovy to the Soviet Union, with its imperialism and europeanization, had been hindering the whole society from growing freely and full well, because such an imperialistic Russia had to continuously oppose and compete against other imperialistic forces and pressure from western Europe (which is much more developed than Russia). The classical version of Eurasianism which was promulgated as a new national perspective for Russia by some emigrant intellectuals in the 1920s and 1930s could not help remaining as uncompleted doctrine because, without paying a due attention to the particularity of the development of Russian state, it focused too much on the importance of the Russian Orthodox Church as central idea unifying peoples of Eurasia. But now, after the breakdown of the Soviet Union, Russia is provided opportunity for being free of her imperialistic tradition. Thus, in order to become a vast economical and cultural center of the multicentric world, it is important for the New Russia to construct a reciprocally beneficial relationship with Eurasian countries and peoples. In connection with this perspective, one can take into consideration not only various Eurasian strata in Russian everyday culture but also a multiplicity of distinguished Russian artistic achievements as good examples of creative synthesis of cultural influences from the East and from the West.
