학생의 소질과 적성에 기반한 진로 설정과 실행의 중요성이 강조되는 가운데, 본 연구는 일반고 3학년 담임교사가대학 진학지도 과정에서 진로 결정을 돕기 위해 어떠한 역할을 수행하고 있는지를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해고3 진로‧진학지도 경험이 있는 7명의 고3 담임교사를 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하고, 사례연구에 기반하여 자료를분석하였다. 분석 결과, 담임교사의 진로·진학지도 경험은 ‘학생 맞춤 정보와 실질적 대비책을 제공하는 도구적 지원’, ‘정서적 돌봄과 관계 형성에 기반한 사회·정서적 지원’, ‘학생의 능동적 탐색과 결정 역량을 길러주는 자율성 지원’ 의 세 범주로 도출되었다. 특히 정보 과잉 시대에 교사는 신뢰가능한 정보를 선별하고, 정서적 돌봄과 자기주도적진로 설계를 조력하는 역할을 수행하고 있었다. 일부 사례에서는 교사의 ‘방임적 자율성 지원’이 구조적 한계와 연결되어나타나고 있었다. 본 연구는 고3 담임교사의 복합적 진로지도 역할을 구조화하고, 도구적·정서적·자율성 지원이 균형있게 작동하기 위한 제도적·실천적 지원 방안을 제시하였다.
Abstract
As the importance of career decision-making and implementation based on students’ talents and aptitudes grows, this study examines the role of homeroom teachers in general high schools in guiding 12th-grade students who have not yet decided on their career paths toward higher education. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with seven homeroom teachers experienced in career and college admission guidance, and the data were analyzed using a case study approach. The analysis identified three major categories of teachers’ roles: (1) instrumental support, providing customized information and practical preparation strategies; (2) socio-emotional support, fostering care and relationships to address students’ emotional needs; and (3) autonomy support, cultivating students’ active exploration and decision-making competencies. Particularly in an era of information overload, teachers played a crucial role in filtering reliable information, offering emotional care, and facilitating self-directed career design. However, some cases revealed “permissive autonomy support,” which was linked to structural constraints within the school context. By structuring the multifaceted roles of homeroom teachers, this study highlights the need for institutional and practical measures to ensure that instrumental, emotional, and autonomy supports function in a balanced manner.
