대학생 졸업유예 경험에 대한 질적 분석

본 연구는 최근 대학 졸업유예자 증가 현상에 대한 문제의식으로 출발하여, 자발적으로 졸업유예를 선택한 대학생들이 졸업유예를 어떻게 경험하는지를 그들의 관점에서 탐색함으로써 졸업유예 경험의 의미와 구조를 심층적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2014년 10∼11월 중 졸업요건을 갖추고도 졸업 내지는 수료를 하지 않고 9학기 이상 등록하여 졸업유예 중인 4년제 대학생 13명을 개별면담하고, 전사한 면접 자료를 현상학적 질적 분석방법 중 합의적 질적 분석(CQR) 방법으로 분석하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째 졸업유예를 결정한 이유와 결정에 영향을 미친 요인으로 대학생들은 졸업자 채용을 기피하는 기업인식에 대응, 졸업유예 현상을 일반화하여 동조, 비용과 용이성에서 부담이 적은 유예제도 이용, 소속감이라는 심리적 욕구 충족 기대가 주요하게 작용하였다고 하였다. 둘째, 졸업유예 경험을 통해 결정 시 설정한 목표 성취여부와 관련한 외적 성과 및 진로방향이나 삶에 대한 관점이 전환된 내적 성과에 대한 인식 변화, 기업체 채용과정에 졸업자와 졸업예정자 간 차별이 크지 않음을 경험하면서 기업 채용 방식에 대한 인식 변화가 있었음을 보고하기도 하였다. 또한 대부분의 사례에서 불안(결정 전)-안도감(결정 직후)-초조함(현재)의 정서 변화가 있었음이 나타났다. 마지막으로 졸업유예 현상에 대해 모든 사례에서 시간을 되돌리더라도 같은 선택을 하겠다고 보고하였고, 이와 관련하여 현실상 어쩔 수 없이 선택하는 것이며 한편으로는 제도가 존재하므로 학생들이 보편적 선택하고 기업체가 졸업생을 기피 현상이 고착화되는 것이라는 사회적 문제로 보기도 하였다. 이러한 연구결과가 대학생 진로․취업 교육 및 상담 현장에 시사하는 바와 후속연구의 방향을 논의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to deeply understand the meaning and the structure of graduation moratorium by investigating the subjective experience of students choosing voluntarily graduation moratorium. Interviews were conducted with 13 university students, who has already fulfilled the required credits but did not graduate from or finish the university and register for a 9th semester. Transcripted interview materials were analyzed using the Consensual Qualitative Research(CQR) approach among Phenomenology and Qualitative Research methods. Results of this study were followed. Firstly, in the concept of the determinant and the influence factor, rumors on corporate perception of the avoidance of recruiting graduates, the agreement of generalizing the phenomenon of graduation moratorium, the cost-cutting and simplicity, the expectation of belonging needs, was acted as the key reason. Secondly, in the concept of the experience, out-process performance regarding the achievement of the goal when making a decision, in-process performance regarding changed career direction or perspective of life, the recognition of rumors on recruiting of the company has changed less discrimination between a graduate and a graduate-to-be. And in the majority of cases, the emotional change, anxiety(before decision)-relief(immediately after decision)-concerned(present), was showed. Lastly, in the concept of the opinion about the phenomenon of graduation moratorium, all students answered they would make the same choice if they are given another chance. It is viewed as the social problem that students generally choose graduation moratorium because of the existing system, and as a result, companies avoid recruiting graduates. On the basis of this study, implications in the career･employment education and counseling field of university students are discussed.
