Abstract

This study analyzes how Siluetazo functioned as a tool of resistance within the framework of visual politics, focusing on the cases of Argentina and Mexico. Siluetazo, which began in Argentina in 1983, became a symbol of resistance against the military dictatorship's oppression and forced disappearances, evolving into a powerful visual representation that helped shape social memory and convey political messages. This research specifically examines how Siluetazo was appropriated in Mexico, where it was reinterpreted as a symbol of resistance against state violence and corruption, particularly during the 2014 Ayotzinapa student disappearance. The study explores how visual images and representations are connected to specific political and social events and how they are appropriated and reconstituted across different contexts, transcending time and space, within the framework of visual politics.
