초록

This study analyzes the imitation of North Korean brands’ products to South Korean and foreign brands’ products based on brand elements. The analysis shows that many North Korean products are imitations of South Korean and foreign brands, which has been going on since 2014 under the Socialist Corporate Responsibility Management System. The focus has been on improving inferior products, with South Korean grocery products being the most frequently copied brands. Brand imitation in North Korea has progressed from low-involvement products to high-involvement products, such as foreign luxury brands. However, obtaining information on North Korean brands and conducting empirical research is complex. Therefore, a cross-comparative analysis of brand imitation among developed and developing countries and North Korea is needed. Brand imitation can provide new momentum and leverage for inter-Korean exchanges and social development in North Korea.
