Abstract

Since colonial science fiction was a dream that could not be realized in reality, expectations for the future were put in it. One form of colonial science fiction is to present an ideal society in the future, while the other is to invent and discover a world like magic or miracles. In this thesis, the expectation for the invention and discovery of the colonial Koreans from the 1920s to the 1930s to Science Joseon is intended to deal with the invention science novels of Science Joseon or novels subject to invention. In addition, in order to grasp the socio-cultural atmosphere of the time, I would like to deal with novels in other pages that borrowed special inventions from the same period as the articles of Science Joseon. Most of the papers on Science Joseon published in 1933 so far have focused on Science Day events. However, there is no research that has paid attention to the trend of articles other than the Science Day event contained therein, and that the contents of the article and the scientific invention also appear as the subject of contemporary novels. Science Day events or the creation of the Invention Society may be closer to professionalism than to popularity. To look at how the public at the time accepted the scientific invention, it may be effective to look at the images dissolved in the novel based on it. Therefore, in this study, not only the science-related articles of Science Joseon, but also the materials of the scientific novels and invention science materials contained in them were considered together. At the same time, we tried to clarify that the “fantasy” of science fiction, which we had rejected, was an important source of ideas in the field of invention science that raised expectations for the future in the colonial 1930s. As scientific inventions and discoveries in the West have been published in newspapers and magazines with a time gap since the 1910s, Mrs. Curie's discovery of radium, the invention of nitrogen fertilizers in Germany, and the discovery of phosphorus in the urine, etc. Aroused interest in. The surprise and shock of discovering chemicals in ordinary things scattered around, such as rocks, air, and urine, helped raise expectations for "realizable" invention science for the colonial Koreans in the 1930s. The discovery of phosphorus in urine gave rise to a science fiction novel by Kim Dong-in, Dr. K's research to develop food from feces. It was borrowed as a material. These world-class invention events have turned attention to nature, which has been indifferent or worthless. As a result, the stage of fantasy before invention was produced with a really ridiculous and ridiculous atmosphere. It's ridiculous to say that the research material is shit, so people can't use the old shit. The reason why novels or writings based on scientific inventions are combined with comedies and cont is because of the production of such a ridiculous situation. Kim Dong-in's Dr. K's Research reflects how outrageous and ridiculous the invention was perceived by the public at the time. Kim Dong-in's Dr. K's Research reflects how outrageous and ridiculous the invention was perceived by the public at the time. In addition, when the invention does not come out as a finished product and ends in a fantasy stage, it clearly shows how great the gap is. It can be said that it is a work that realistically captures the “relationship between invention and fantasy” during the colonial period. Inventions and fantasies that push each other out but inevitably coexist like both sides of a coin came from the same idea, but the gap from public perception seems to have been that much. However, unlike inventions that pursue the selfishness of life or civilization, they were also tempted and suggested for the invention of munitions, new weapons, and weapons of murder. At the time, scientists and inventors wonder if science could have maintained their convictions in confrontational uses that could benefit or harm people. Although it shows only the positive and optimistic aspects of the motive of the invention, the invention was used as a tool of competition for the development of war weapons of the imperialist powers. However, for the Koreans, who were not in the ranks of imperialist powers, but in the position of colonies, the invention was an expectation and hope that seemed to be a needle hole.
