본고에서는 2022 개정 교육과정을 반영한 현행 고등학교 공통국어 1, 2와 문학 교과서에서 〈구운몽〉이 본 제재로 수록된 양상을 살피고자 했다. 그를 위한 예비적 고찰로서 고전산문이 본 제재로 수록된 양상부터 개괄하였고, 본 제재로 수록된 총회수나 작품의 종류가 이전 시기에 비해 줄었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 그 이유로는 검인정 교과서의 수가 이전 시기에 비해 줄어들었고, 디지털 ‧ 미디어 역량이 강조되며 상대적으로 고전산문 제재가 줄어들 가능성이 높아졌을 가능성 등을 들 수 있는데, 실제로 고전산문은 공통국어 교과서에서 갈래 교육이나 문학사 교육과 연계된 단원에서만 본 제재로 쓰이고 있었다. 〈구운몽〉은 2022 개정 교육과정 반영 교과서 가운데 지학사(김) 공통국어 2 교과서에 본 제재로 수록되어 있었다. 구체적인 수록 양상에 대해서는 몇 가지 고민해 볼 만한 부분들이 눈에 띄었다. 우선 소단원의 제목이 ‘옛이야기의 즐거움’인데, 〈구운몽〉의 즐거움으로 학습자들을 안내하기 위해서는 ‘생각 열기’가 〈구운몽〉 본문과 연계될 필요가 있었다. 이때 〈구운몽〉의 재미란 ①재기발랄한 인물들과 사건들에 대한 감각적인 서술, ②복잡한 서사 구조가 지닌 묘미, ③오묘한 깨달음으로 촉발되는 독자 · 학습자의 존재론적 성찰을 들 수 있다. 이를 자연스럽게 느끼게 할 수 있도록 보조 자료의 활용, 날개 질문의 수정, ‘생각 키우기’의 수정을 제안해 보았다. 본격적인 ‘학습 활동’에 대해서는 표현에 대한 세심한 고려가 필요함을 논의했다. 특히 ‘각몽 직후 성진의 첫 번째 깨달음’과 ‘육관대사의 깨우침을 통한 궁극적인 깨달음’이 다르다는 점이 명확하게 드러나도록 표현을 다듬을 필요가 있었다. 이상의 논의를 통해 앞으로의 과제를 정리해 보았다. 첫째, 한정된 본문을 보충함으로써 〈구운몽〉의 다양한 매력을 느끼게 할 방안이 마련되어야 한다. 둘째, 지문 구성의 변화를 고민해 볼 필요가 있다. 이는 2022 개정 국어과 교육과정에서 강조하는 “책 한 권 읽기, 작품 전체 읽기”와도 관련되므로 논의를 요한다. 셋째, 〈구운몽〉에 대한 깊이 있는 이해를 도모해야 할 것이다. 이는 학습활동의 표현이 세심하게 고려됨으로써 달성될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study examines inclusion of The Nine Cloud Dream as a main text in the 2022 Revised Curriculum–based high school Common Korean Language 1, Common Korean Language 2, and Literature textbooks. It also proposes directions for future development. As a preliminary step, the study provides an overview of the inclusion of classical prose as a main text, confirming that both the total number of main-text appearances and the variety of works have decreased. This trend may be attributed to the reduced number of authorized textbooks and a heightened emphasis on digital and media literacy. In fact, classical prose in Common Korean Language textbooks appeared as main texts only in units linked to genre education or literary history education. In the 2022 Revised Curriculum textbooks, The Nine Cloud Dream appears as a main text in Common Korean Language 2 published by Jihaksa (Kim). Regarding its inclusion, several points are of note. First, the subunit title, “The Joy of Old Stories,” could be better linked to the main text through a “Thinking Warm-up” activity that connects directly to The Nine Cloud Dream. The pleasures of The Nine Cloud Dream include (1) vivid depictions of witty characters and events, (2) the appeal of its complex narrative structure, and (3) the ontological reflection prompted in readers and learners by its subtle enlightenment. To help students experience these aspects naturally, the study proposes using supplementary materials, revising “Wing Questions,” and modifying “Expanding Thoughts” activities. Regarding the main “Learning Activities,” careful attention should be given to expressions—particularly to ensure that the difference between Seongjin’s first awakening immediately after the dream and his ultimate enlightenment through Master Yukgwan’s guidance is clearly conveyed. Based on this discussion, the study explores future tasks. First, it is necessary to supplement the limited excerpts so that students can appreciate the work’s multifaceted appeal. Second, alternative configurations of the text should be considered; this relates to the emphasis on “reading a whole book or an entire work” in the 2022 Revised Korean Language Curriculum, warranting further discussion. Third, deeper understanding of The Nine Cloud Dream should be fostered.
