Abstract

This thesis aims to examine Simgyungchagi(『心經箚記』) by Kim Bu-Ryun(金富倫). When a brief survey of the life of Kim was made through the “Records of a deceased person's life(「行狀」)” by Lee Gwang-Jeong and “Myogalmyong(「墓碣銘」)” by Chae Je-Gong, no comment was found on Kim’s writings titled “Toegyeseonsaengeonhaecharok(「退溪先生言行箚錄」)”, “Mundapcharok(「問答箚錄」)”, and ‘Annotations(箚記) on the Great Learning (『大學』) and The Heart Sutra (『心經』),’ which is considered to be an insufficient part. Kim’s Simgyeongchagi(『心經箚記』) became the first work among the commentaries to Simgyeongbuju(『心經附註』) by Yi Hwang(李滉)’s closest disciplines. In Simgyeongchagi(『心經箚記』), difficult letters or misspelled letters in were figured out correctly and their meanings were clarified. In particular, the fact that Kim’s commentary was composed by using Eonhae(諺解) and Gugyeol(口訣) was an epochal shift in the history of commentaries. The Mean(『中庸』) says about the two studying methods, one method is to honor moral nature(尊德性工夫) and follow the path of studies(道問學工夫) at the same time. But Yi Hwang(李滉) emphasized on honoring moral nature(尊德性工夫) in his writings titled Simgyeongbuju(『心經附註』) and “Jondeokseongjemyeong (「尊德性齋銘」)”. It was because Zhuxi(朱熹), in his later days, thought that his disciplines were short of honoring moral nature(尊德性), and Yi Hwang(李滉) also accepted it as it was. Kim Bu-Ryun(金富倫) also followed Yi Hwang(李滉), concentrating all his efforts on studying by honoring moral nature(尊德性工夫) in his “Jondeokseongjemyeong(「尊德性齋銘」)”.
