본 연구의 목적은 체육 분야의 인과관계 연구에서 매개변인과 매개효과의 의미를 설명하고, 매개변인의 효과를 검증하는 방법을 소개하는 것이다. 매개변인은 두 변인의 관계를 매개하는 변인으로, 사회과학 분야에서는 일반적으로 회귀분석을 이용하여 매개효과가 검증되어 왔다. 회귀분석은 비교적 적은 표본수에서 얻어진 자료에 적용할 수 있지만, 측정의 오차를 설명하지 못하고 독립변인이 매개변인을 통해 종속변인을 설명하는 간접효과의 표준오차를 제공하지 않아 매개효과를 검증하는 것이 복잡하다. 반면, 자료가 정규성 등의 가정만 만족한다면 구조방정식모형을 적용하여 회귀분석의 문제점을 해결할 수 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 매개효과 검증 방법으로 회귀분석과 구조방정식모형을 모두 소개하였고, 실제 연구에서 사용된 스포츠심리학 분야의 자료를 회귀분석과 구조방정식모형에 적용하여 매개효과를 검증하는 방법을 구체적으로 설명하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present the methods and procedure of examining mediation effect. A mediating variable is a variable which mediates the directional relationship between two variables. Regression model has been used to examine the effect of mediating variable in social science. However, the regression model has limitations in that it does not take account the measurement error and does not provide the standard error for the indirect effect of an independent variable on the dependent variable. The application of structural equation modeling(SEM) let us overcome these limitations. The methods and procedure of applying regression model and SEM in examining mediation effect are described and compared in this paper along with examples.
