담화에서의 문장부사어의 정보적 특성 ─ 인지 문법과 정보 구조를 중심으로 ─

본고는 문장부사어의 기능을 인지언어학과 정보 구조의 관점에서 해석하여 담화에서의 문장부사어의 정보적 특성을 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 문장부사어는 통사적으로 부가어의 지위를 가지고 명제의 의미에는 관여하지 않지만, 담화가 형성되고 해석되는 과정에서는 일정한 기여를 한다고 보았다. 그렇기에 화자는 문장부사어를 자신의 의도에 맞춰 선택적으로, 전략적으로 사용한다. 이 같은 관점에서 문장부사어의 정보적 특성을 살펴봤을 때, 문장부사어는 담 화 맥락상 전략적⋅의도적으로 선택된다는 특성으로 인해 ‘주의의 초점’이 놓일 가능성이 크다. 문장부사어라도 부사어마다 현저성(정보성)에 차이가 있으며, 이에 따라 출현 위치에도 제약이 있을 수 있다. 부사어가 ‘주의의 초점’이자 ‘모습’일 경우에는 문장부사어로 해석된다. 부사어가 ‘주의의 초점’이지만 ‘모습’이 아닐 경우에는 성분부사어로 해석된다. 또한 문장부사어는 관계적 주어짐성과 관련이 있고 문장부사어는 그 자체로 초점이 된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to interpret the function of sentence adverbs from the perspective of cognitive linguistics and information structure, in order to clarify the informational characteristics of sentence adverbs in discourse. It seems that sentence adverbs make a certain contribution in the process of discourse formation and interpretation. Thus, speakers use sentence adverbs selectively and strategically according to their intentions. From this perspective, it is likely that sentence adverbs are given significant attention. Even among sentence adverbs, there are differences in salience (informativeness). When an adverb is the “focus of attention” and represents “figure”, it is interpreted as a sentence adverb. However, when an adverb is the “focus of attention” but not related to “figure”, it is interpreted as a constituent adverb. Additionally, sentence adverbs are related to the relational givenness, and it is argued that sentence adverbs themselves become the focus.
