Abstract
This study aims to verify the structure of stress, loneliness, anxiety, and depression and the influence of human-animal interaction on suicidal ideation in single-person households with pets. To achieve the research purpose, data were collected from 297 single-person households with pets nationwide, and SPSS 23.0 and SPSS Process Macro v3.4 were used to verify frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and the significance of mediation effects. The results showed that stress, loneliness, depression, and suicidal ideation decreased as human-animal interaction increased. Second, as loneliness, anxiety, and depression increased, suicidal ideation increased. Third, the single and multiple (sequential) mediation effects of stress, loneliness, anxiety, and depression were found in the relationship between human-animal interaction and suicidal ideation. Based on the research results, the necessity of developing and applying programs related to owning or owning pets to prevent or reduce suicidal ideation in single-person households was suggested.
