Abstract
This self-study explored the sports participation experiences of an elementary pre-service teacher educator and their meanings. The participant in this study was the researcher, who engages in daily physical activities. Data were collected from the researcher's exercise journal, with entries recorded after each physical activity session. The data were analyzed using Spradley’s (1979) domain analysis and taxonomic analysis methods. The results were categorized into four themes: “health and physical fitness enhancement,” “fundamental movement functions and performance,” “positive emotions and social interaction,” and “sharing and expanding movement activities.” Meanwhile, “health and physical fitness improvement” was subdivided into the subthemes “health and basic fitness enhancement,” “physical changes and psychological stability,” and “psychological burdens.” Improvement in the researcher’s basic movement and exercise performance emerged through level-based challenges and practice; the acquisition of skills, knowledge, and attitudes; and change and growth through disappointment and frustration. “Positive emotions and social interactions” included the subthemes “positive interactions,” “perseverance and responsibility,” “cooperative attitudes,” and “conflicts among members.” Finally, the sharing and expansion of movement activities manifested as the strengthening of practical abilities in daily life, a shared physical culture with others, and enjoyment of physical activities. The findings demonstrate the potential for growth and development through sports participation.
