만주의 서정, 해방의 감각 - 유치환의 ‘만주시편’ 선택과 배치의 문화정치학 -

Abstract

This study examines the meaning and value of Ryu, Chihwan’s ‘Poems of Manchuria’. Cheongma’s poems of Manchuria can be classified into three types. The first ones are the poems published in literary magazines or Manchuria’s poet selections and absolutizing life and vain felt on the field of Manchuria. The second ones are the poems that are the kinds of ‘national poems’ and encourage people to join in the Greater East Asia War. These were published between 1943 and 1944 and then were not contained in his poem collections. The third ones are the poems about experience in Manchuria contained in the 2nd poem collection A Book of Life(1947). They were created at his stay in Manchuria and just kept without being published and then became contained in A Book of Life decisively. This article approaches the poems of Manchuria either published or hidden in many ways not from the perspective of recording and expressing experience in Manchuria but from the viewpoint of aspiration for national foundation after liberation and ego-narration’s impulse for it. Particularly, the poems of Manchuria contained in A Book of Life Volume 2 focus on recovering the homeland and hometown unlike other poems emphasizing distance from Chosun. At the point that these pomes were issued at the time that the Left and Right’s ideological conflict reached the peak (1947), it is hard to see them to have the purpose of remembering and expressing Manchuria. First, this is the aesthetic strategy of self-salvation to conceal the cooperation in Manchukuo at the end of Japanese imperialism. Second, it is the aesthetic choice and declaration to join in realizing humanistic national literature demanded in the conservative literary world in the space of liberation and founding a nationalistic state valuing its language and culture, and the commonness of blood, that is, the Republic of Korea. In fact, Cheongma precisely deliberated on and practiced cultural politics providing positive support for resistance to Japan, criticism on the Left’s literary world, and the foundation of Korea based on capitalism all at the same time by spreading the patriotism and consciousness for the hometown contained in his poems of Manchuria to the field of ideological conflict during the period of liberation.
