Abstract
This paper aims to estimate the amount of the economic losses (or gains)from high school dropout in Korea. ‘Korean Labor and Income Panel Study’10th data, crime data surveyed by the Korean Supreme Public Prosecutors Office, Park et al. (2007) and Cho et al. (2009) are used in this study. According to the empirical analysis, high school dropouts caused the life cycle income loss at around 80 million won, the life cycle income tax decrease at around 6 million won, the increasing social cost of crime at around 6 million won. This result shows the social cost of high school dropouts is not small, and some adequate economic policy should be introduced.
