Abstract
This study attempts to identify the current status of violence damage that occurs during the performance of the police's duties, and in particular, analyze what characteristics affect physical damage, and ultimately derive implications related to the strategy of minimizing police victimization. After dividing the national police offices into six regions, a self-reported questionnaire was conducted on 600 police officers (the last 526) by convenience sampling of police officers working in that region. The main analysis results and implications are as follows. First, it was confirmed that verbal violence victims such as swear words, slang, intimidation, and threats to the police were more frequent than those of physical violence. Second, as a result of the analysis of the perception of the police officers, they responded that the loss of confidence in the police, such as the neglect of citizens' public power, and minor punishment for the violent perpetrators were the cause of the damage to the police officers. In addition, it was found that there were high responses that the solution should be solved through a method of changing citizens' perceptions and strict law enforcement. Third, it was found that the possibility of physical violence was increased for the police officers of the lower rank of police officers. Fourth, it was found that the possibility of physical damage was increased when police officers used equipment and weapons to cope with other methods, such as language. In addition, when the perpetrator uses a body such as hands or feet or uses a weapon or vehicle, the likelihood of physical damage to police officers is higher than that of language and other methods. Lastly, it was found that the possibility of physical damage to the police officers increased in cases where the damage sites were on the road and in the case where they were not.
