Abstract
Some feminists claim that abortion should be morally permissible because a fetus is a mere of ‘uterine material’ or ‘fatal tissue’. Other feminists defense the right to abortion, on the premise that a fetus is a human being to have moral standing. The purpose of this paper is to study on these arguments critically. Methodologically feminists prefer a bottom-up approach to a top-down approach. They begin to discuss the morality of abortin, focusing not fetus but pregnant women. They argue for the right to abortion on the three terms – emancipation of women, moral responsibility, and bodily autonomy. But these arguments cannot avoid the problem if a fetus is human being. Moreover, contra feminist arguments, the right to abortion does not increase but decrease the reproductive freedom of women, limiting the reproductive freedom to negative right. So the right to abortion does not help to emancipate women. The ideal of equality of male and female can come true through reformation of social institutions to oppress women.
