나태주 시의 원형 비평적 고찰 - ‘외갓집’ 혹은 ‘외할머니’를 중심으로 -

본 논자는 나태주의 시에 ‘외할머니’ 또는 ‘외갓집’이 초기부터 지속적으로 등장하고 있는 사실에 의문을 품어왔으나 어느 논자도 그 점에 주목하지 않고 있었다. 따라서 본고는 ‘외할머니’ 또는 ‘외갓집’이 시인에게 어떠한 의미를 지니며, 시세계에는 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 이러한 연구를 진행하는 데 ‘진 시노다 볼린(Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D.)’의 원형이론에 많은 빚을 지었다. 볼린은 정신의학자 입장에서 여성이 나아갈 길을 제시하고자 『우리 속에 있는 여신들』을 집필하였으며, 그에 대한 호응과 함께 남성 독자들의 요구에 부응하고자 『우리 속에 있는 남신들』도 집필하였다. 두 저서는 그리스 신들의 원형을 인간의 유형에 대입하여 분석하는 한편, 특정한 원형의 결점을 보완해줄 수 있는 원형이 무엇인지를 밝히는 데 관심을 기울이고 있다. 연구 결과 외할머니는 데메테르의 모성 원형을 행사하고 있음이 밝혀졌다. 모성애는 대부분 어머니에게서 느끼는 감정이지만 외할머니는 자식을 희생적으로 사랑하는 데메테르 원형을 행사함으로써 나태주의 정신세계에 모성의 고향으로 환기되기에 이른다. 두 번째, 외할머니는 자연친화적인 헤스티아 원형을 행사하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 나태주는 외할머니와 함께 병아리를 기르고 꽃을 가꾸며 생명의 소중함을 배워나갔다. 외할머니의 자연친화적인 생활 방식이 나태주에게 전수되어 그 역시 자연친화적인 헤스티아 원형을 좋아하고, 내재하게 된 것이다. 따라서 ‘외갓집’ 또는 ‘외할머니’가 지니는 의미는 ‘자연과 더불어 살아가는 방법을 가르쳐준 모성의 고향’으로 요약할 수 있겠다. 외할머니와 함께한 삶의 체험이 지금까지의 시세계에 영향을 주었듯이 앞으로의 창작활동에도 영향을 미치리라고 생각한다.
Abstract
I have been skeptical about the fact that the words like mother’s mom or mother’s family continually have been shown up at Na Tae Joo’s poetry, but anyone do like that. Thus, in this study, I tried to find what these words “mother’s mom or mother’s family” mean to poet and how it affects on his poetry. While studying, the Archetypal theory of Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D. has been really helpful for me. Bolen as psychiatrist wrote “Goddesses in Everywoman” to suggest a way to move on as women, and also wrote “Gods in Everyman” to meet male readers’ needs with their favor. These two books was analyzed by substituting the original type of Greek gods for the type of human, besides focused on finding original type which could make up for defects of specific original type. As a result of the studying, it was ascertained that the mother’s mom represents Demeter’s motherhood original type. Motherly love is the feeling that normally been felt from a mother; however, in his inner space, motherhood-hometown is being evoked by mother’s mom who loves their grand children so much lovingly as like Demeter’s original type. Secondly, it could be know that mother’s mom represents Hestia’s original type. Na Tae Joo was learnt value of life by raising chickens and growing flowers with his grand mom. The grand mom’s environmentally friendly life style affected on his, and that is why he also like that kind of Hestia’s original type and keep that in his mind. Therefore, the meaning of what mother’s family or mother’s mom contain could be summarized as motherhood-hometown teaching the way how to be environmentally friendly. I think the experience being together with his grandmother will be influenced in his future work as like before.
