한국태생 국제결혼가정 청소년의 진로 형성 과정에 관한 종단적 사례 연구

소수자집단의 진로발달과정에 대한 연구는 특히 초기사회화와 필요한 자원에 대한 접근성 등 개인이 놓인 사회문화적 맥락과 생애적 맥락 속에서 이해해야 한다는 문제의식 하에 이 연구는 한국태생 국제결혼가정 청소년 두 명을 사례로 하여 그들의 진로형성의 과정을 그들이 놓인 생활세계의 맥락 속에서 종단적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 즉, 5-6년에 걸친 종단적 질적 사례 연구를 통해 이들의 진로 형성 과정을 구체적으로 이해하고 그 과정에서 작동하는 생활세계적 맥락을 구분하여 살펴봄으로써 이주배경청소년의 진로형성과정을 총체적으로 이해하고 진로지원의 내용과 방법을 체계적으로 제언하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 이주여성들에게 학구적 성향은 자녀의 진로개척에 중요한 모범으로 의미가 있다는 점, 둘째, 이주여성들은 한국사회의 지배적 학부모문화와 다른 관점을 지니고 있으나 자신의 학교교육에서의 성공 여부에 따라 자녀진로에 관한 관점과 지원방식이 다르고 그것이 자녀의 진로형성에 중요한 영향을 미친다는 점, 마지막으로, 한국사회의 다문화교육지원이 주로 영유아와 초등단계에 그치면서 중등단계에서 중요한 진로관련 정보격차와 보편적 직업교육의 파행으로 인하여 이주여성과 그 자녀들이 어려움을 겪으며 이는 학력이 낮고 사회적 자본이 적은 이주여성과 그 자녀의 경우 더 크게 체험되었다는 것을 확인하였다. 이와 같은 연구결과에 비추어 이주배경청소년들의 건강한 진로형성을 위한 차원별 지원방안을 제언하였다.
Abstract
The career formation process of minority adolescents must be understood within the context of life history which pays proper attention to the individuals’ early socialization experiences and availability of social and educational resources. This longitudinal case study examined two Korea-born adolescents in international marriage to find out how their career development is formed in the context of their cultures. By observing their lives for 5-6 years and analyzing the influence of culture on their career development based on their dispositions, traditions and law, this study presents a more comprehensive understanding of the career formation process of adolescents with an immigrant background. The study results show: first, the academic dispositions of immigrant women (mothers) played an important role for their children’s career aspirations. Second, immigrant women had different view on their children’s education from most Korean parents, but even between the two immigrant mothers, there were differences in terms of their beliefs on their children’s career choice and the way they supported their children depending on their own level of educational success. These different beliefs and parenting practices influenced their children’s career formation differently. Third, as the support for multicultural education has been mostly focusing on early childhood and elementary school level, there has been the shortage of the educational and career development support in secondary schools. Due to the lack of information on possible career choices and dysfunctional vocational education programs, immigrant women and their children suffered from difficulties in making a career choice and future preparation, and this was more evident in immigrant women with low level of education and limited social capital. Based on these results, suggestions were made to help adolescents with an immigrant background to make a healthier career development.
