Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of table tennis participation on happiness and trait sport confidence in women with physical disabilities. Sixteen participants residing in a metropolitan area in South Korea were recruited through the Disabled Sports Association program. They were assigned to an experimental group (n=8) and a control group (n=8). The experimental group engaged in a 10-week table tennis program, 3 sessions/week, 60 min/session. The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ) developed by Argyle (2001) and the Trait Sport Confidence Inventory (TSCI) by Vealey (1986) were used as measurement tools. Data were analyzed using factor analysis and two-way repeated measures ANOVA with SPSS 28.0. The findings revealed that participants in the experimental group showed significant improvements in external and internal happiness, while self-regulated happiness showed only partial changes. Regarding trait sport confidence, significant effects were observed in the time factor and group×time interaction, but not in the between-group comparison. These results indicate that table tennis participation contributes positively to enhancing happiness among women with physical disabilities, although its influence on trait sport confidence remains limited. Future research should involve larger sample sizes and long-term interventions to further clarify the psychological benefits of sports participation for this population.
