남원 지역은 동학농민혁명에서 주요한 역할을 한 지역으로, 농민군과 민보군 간에치열한 전투가 있었던 곳이다. 본 연구는 남원 지역에서 벌어진 방아치와 관음치 전투를 중심으로, 양측 간의 충돌 양상과 전투 과정을 다각도로 분석하였다. 기존의연구에서는 방아치와 관음치 전투의 장소에 대해 의견이 합치되지 않았다. 이를 해소하기 위해 여기에서는 기존 사료와 새롭게 발견된 자료를 바탕으로 사료비판을통해 방아치 및 관음치 전투의 지리적 위치를 재확정하였다. 즉, 9월에 방아치, 11 월에 관음치에서 전투가 있었음을 확인한 것이다. 이를 통해 동학농민혁명에 대한지역적 관점을 심화하며 남원 지역 동학농민혁명의 구체적 전개 과정과 역사적 의미를 한층 더 명확히 할 수 있다.
Abstract
The Namwon region played a pivotal role in the Donghak Peasant Revolution, serving as the site of fierce battles between the peasant army and Minbogun(民堡軍). This study focuses on the conflicts at Bangachi(方峨峙) and Gwaneumchi(觀音峙), analyzing the dynamics and processes of these engagements from multiple perspectives. Previous research has lacked consensus on the exact locations of these battles. To address this, this study conducted critical analyses of existing records alongside newly discovered sources, reexamining the geographical sites of the two battles. It was confirmed that the battles took place at Bangachi in September and Gwaneumchi in November. By doing so, the research deepens the regional perspective on the Donghak Peasant Revolution and provides greater clarity on the specific developments and historical significance of the Namwon area's role in this movement. integrated.
