Abstract
This study analyzes research trends of digital media use of infants and toddlers, traces the academic development of this field, and proposes directions for future research. A total of 48 studies addressing the digital media use of infants and toddlers were selected from studies published from 2012 through 2025. The selected studies were analyzed according to publication year, research participants, research methods, and research topics, with frequencies and percentages calculated accordingly. The findings are as follows. First, research of digital media use of infants and toddlers has continued since 2012, illuminating a rapid increase between 2016 and 2020, followed by a decline after 2021. Second, studies involving infants and toddlers and parents were the most prevalent, whereas research including infants and toddlers and teachers has shown an upward trend since 2021. Third, quantitative methods were used most frequently, although qualitative approaches have increasingly gained attention in recent years. In terms of research topics, perception surveys and variable analyses were dominant, while studies applying digital media to activity-based contexts began to emerge after 2021. These findings highlight the need for more diversified research methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to better understand and support digital media experiences of infants and toddlers.
