후시안(不審庵)의 노지(露地)에 관한 연구

후시(不審庵)1)안은 센노리큐(千利休)2)의 다도법칙과 사상을 그대로 계승하고 있는 표천가(表千家)를 통틀어 부르는 이름이다. 그리고 노지는 다실 앞 정원을 말한다. 다실 정원, 즉 노지의 핵심은 정원에 놓인 디딤돌을 한 걸음 한 걸음 내딛는 발걸음에서 생겨나는 찰나의 자기생각을 하게 하는 것이다. 그런 후에야 다실에 들어가 차를 타는 행위에서 자기해탈에 이를 수 있다. 일본다도는 ‘도(道)’이며 즐기는 차노유(茶の湯)와는 별개의 개념으로 센노리큐가 정립을 한다. 다도 핵심은 형식보다 내면을 중요하게 생각하는데, 노지를 구성할 때. 필히 마음의 자정작용을 하는 기능이 필요하다. 이러한 점에서 노지는 다른 정원양식보다 특별함을 가진다. 이러한 노지의 특별함은 어디에서 비롯되는지, 경험하는 이로 하여금 어떠한 점이 감탄을 자아내는지 연구의 필요성을 느끼게 한다. 그렇다면 일본다도의 어떤 특별한 점이 노지가 일본 정원양식의 하나로 자리 잡았는지 궁금해진다. 그리하여 후시안의 차실정원, 즉 노지의 공간구성, 구성요소, 식물요소를 고찰하여 찾아보려고 한다.
Abstract
Fushin'an is the collective name of Omotesenke (表千家) that inherits the tea ceremony rules and ideas of Sen no Rikyū. Also Roji (outdoor location) refers to the gardens in front of the teahouses. The tea-room garden, or in other words, the heart of the Roji, allows for momentary self-reflection that comes from each step taken on the stepping stones placed in the garden. It is only then that one can return to the teahouse afterwards and reach nirvana through the act of brewing tea. Japanese tea ceremonies are ‘provincial’ (道) and Sen no Rikyū defines them as a concept that is separate from tea ceremonies for enjoyment. Tea ceremonies place central importance on that which is internal rather than form, and when the Roji is composed, self-purification functions of the heart are essentially needed. With this, the Roji is special compared to other garden styles. This specialness of the Roji is simple but astonishing. Here, curiosities form as to what point of specialness of the Japanese tea ceremony allowed the Roji to take its place as a Japanese garden style. With this, examinations are made of the space composition, components, and plant elements of the tea-room garden of Fushin'an, or the Roji, to find out.
