Abstract

This study attempted to consider effective teaching contents and methods through a questionnaire for field teachers and focus group interviews(referred to as FGI) to improve the money skills of students with intellectual disabilities. A survey was conducted on 128 field special teachers with experience in teaching intellectual disabilities, and FGI was conducted on four field special teachers who understood functional academic skills and evidence-based instruction. First of all, the contents are as follows. First, as a result of the survey, the areas most emphasized by many teachers were in the order of money calculation, reading the place value of money, and exchanging money. Second, the instructions that must be preceded before teaching money include figure discrimination, exchange, numerical series, and number comparison. Next, the contents of the method aspect are as follows. First, it was said that direct instruction is the most important for acquiring money skills, and methods such as cumulative review, repetitive practice, CSA, and prompting should be used. Second, it was mentioned that in order to generalize money skills, opportunities for practice are provided in various situations. Teachers' views were summarized through questionnaires and FGI in terms of content and methods for improving money skills of students with intellectual disabilities, and suggestions for future money instruction were presented.
