Abstract
This paper provides statistics on the occupations of top earners using the tax return and survey data. The results show that stockholders, executives, managers, and supervisors account for about 53.8 percent of the top 0.1 percent of income earners in recent years, and can account for 88.7 percent of the increase in the share of national income going to the top 0.1 percent of income distribution between 2002 and 2007. These jobs account for only 17.9 percent of the top 0.1~1 income group, but account for 65.8 percent of the increase in the share of national income going to the top 0.1~1 percent income group. The hike of pay for stockholders, executives, managers, and supervisors is the main reason of the surge of income concentration during 2000s’ in Korea.
