본 연구는 치명적 폭력(살인과 자살)에 관한 통계자료와 사회구조적 요인에 관한 자료를 활용하여, 사회구조적 관점에서 자살과 살인 현상의 관계를 분석하였다. 자살과 살인 현상에 관한 선행연구 대다수가 자살과 살인을 독립적으로 발생하는 현상으로 전제하고 개별 현상에 대한 영향요인을 분석하였다는 한계점이 존재한다. 이에 본 연구는 두 현상의 관계를 설명할 수 있는 이론에 기반하여, 두 유형의 치명적 폭력 간의 관계를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 공간 패널자료를 구축하고 공간회귀분석과 공간패널회귀분석을 활용하여 분석 결과, 사회구조적 요인은 시간 및 공간에 따라 치명적 폭력에 대해 차별적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 경제적·정서적 어려움 등이 치명적 폭력을 유발하고 적극적인 삶의 태도, 타인과의 관계가 치명적 폭력을 억제하는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한, 빈곤, 가정해체 등 사회구조적 불이익이 치명적 폭력 중 살인의 비율을 증가시키는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 본 연구는 두 치명적 폭력을 완화할 수 있는 대안 등을 제안하였다.
Abstract
This study analyzed the relationship between suicide and homicide from a socio-structural perspective, utilizing statistical data on lethal violence (homicide and suicide) and socio-structural factors. Most previous studies on suicide and homicide treated these phenomena as independent occurrences, focusing on identifying the influencing factors of each separately. Addressing this limitation, this study empirically examined the relationship between these two forms of lethal violence based on theories that explained their interconnection, including stream analogy theory. Using spatial panel data, spatial regression analysis, and spatial panel regression analysis, the findings revealed that socio-structural factors had differential effects on lethal violence across time and space. Specifically, economic and emotional hardships were found to have contributed to lethal violence, while an active approach to life and positive interpersonal relationships were shown to have suppressed such violence. Furthermore, social disadvantages such as poverty and family disintegration were identified as factors that increased the proportion of homicide among lethal violence cases. Based on these results, this study proposed potential strategies to mitigate these two forms of lethal violence.
