Abstract

In this study, pre-service teachers taking the introduction to special education produced sign language contents based on a team, and qualitatively analyzed the contents of self-report reflection on their experiences. The participants were 48 teachers who completed teaching courses at a general university located in A Metropolitan City, and they teamed up to produce sign language contents and individually wrote self-reports. The data were analyzed in the structure of subject words, subcategories, and upper categories through repetitive reading and categorization by applying inductive qualitative content analysis. As a result of the analysis, the production of sign language contents enhanced the understanding of hearing impairment and sign language for pre-service teachers and served as an opportunity to reflect on the importance of educational cooperation competencies in the cooperative learning process. This study shows that practice-oriented activities dealing with visual language contents such as sign language can contribute to enhancing the readiness for integrated education in the curriculum of pre-service teachers, and further suggests that edutech-based cooperative learning activities can be an effective strategy for strengthening the educational competencies of pre-service teachers.
