교회학교 교사의 전문성 향상을 위한 질적 연구: 전문성 저해요인 분석을 중심으로

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the church school teachers’professionalism and to identify the impeding elements which hinder the improvement of their professionalism in church. The results of analysis can lead us to understand the inner reality of church school teachers’experiences or cultures and interaction between teachers, students,members and administrators of church schools in the complicated Korean churches. To achieve the goal of this research, total 12 research participants (Male: 7, Female: 5) were selected. They are church school teachers and have at least one or more years of teaching experiences in their churches. Also, they are members of mega churches in which their average attendance is over 500 members, and the selected denominations are those of Kosin and Hapdong. This study is conducted during two months through Focus Group Interview(FGI) with church school teachers and through an analysis of the qualitative materials which are the data from indepth interviews, field notes and observations, all of which is analyzed by NVivo, that is one of CAQDAS(Computer-Aided Qualitative Data Analysis Software). NVivo has been popular a data analysis method nowadays because it provides clear data analysis with regard to how they interview, how they question the participants and how they analyze the qualitative materials. This qualitative method effectively focuses on church school teacher’s professionalism and impeding factors in church education process. And we also use ‘member-check’ method to improve the validity of this study. The research results present the narrative of the 12 participants. These narrative include quality descriptions about how church school teachers implement various programs and how teacher and church members interact with others in their churches. Based on these narrative, we identified the critical factors of impediment influencing the church school teacher’s professionalism. These critical factors of impediment include growth pain of teachers, low quality interaction between teachers and students, teacher’s fatigues and their spirituality issues, and finally the lack of support system in churches. These impeding factors can be further classified in three levels which can be typified as teacher’s individual level, teacher-student level, and teacher-church level.
