한자와 이집트 상형문자의 의미요소 비교 연구- 생물과 관련된 주제를 중심으로
A Comparative Study on the Meaning Parts of Chinese Character and Egyptian Hieroglyph

This study aimed to deduce common points and different points between Egyptian hieroglyph and Chinese characters by comparing the meaning elements of Egyptian Hieroglyph and those of Chinese characters, in particular, of which the meaning is related to human being. For this, this paper compared 540 Chinese radicals(部首) from ‘Shuowenjiezi’(說文解字) and 431 determinatives of Egyptian Hieroglyph extracted from ‘List of Hieroglyphic Sign’(Alan Gardiner(1927)) which provides us with total number of 764 Egyptian Hieroglyphs following 26 themes. Finally, we could find out these below four features in the determinatives of Egyptian Hieroglyph compared with Chinese radicals: first of all, the degree of pictographic nature in Egyptian Hieroglyph is stronger and more concrete than that of Chinese characters. In second, there is not many meaning elements which are common both in Egyptian determinatives and Chinese radicals. Thirdly, this paper found how different the way of life and different natural environments in two ancient societies through comparing the Egyptian determinatives and the Chinese radicals. Lastly, this paper found out that Egyptian hieroglyph has much more meaning elements which are related to god and religion than Chinese character, because ancient Egyptian society believed in hundreds of gods and considered the Parao as one of the Egyptian gods.
